You can be honest with me…are there times that DIY feels intimidating? I get it. Big projects can feel overwhelming especially when we are trying to figure out how to do them. It happens to me too. That is why I have my personal mantra: STOP PINNING. START DOING. It doesn’t mean we have to speed through things, we just have to start. So in the spirit of starting, I want to share 5 easy ways to update your home that anyone can do.

#1 Easily Update Your Home with Paint

Paint can feel so permanent, but I promise you it is the easiest way to update your home. The hardest part is picking what color to use. Do you go bold or more neutral? If you have hung out with me for a while you know I LOVE using shades of green throughout my home. Pretty much any shade, although, I do have some all-time favorites. Please tell me that you have go-to colors too.

Remember, some DIY tricks will take the stress out of doing the actual painting. My first tip is to use the coolest tape and plastic dropcloth combo to prep your space before painting. Nothing against regular painter’s tape, I use it all the time too. But, since the tape and plastic dropcloth come together as one product, it will make your project so much easier to set up and clean up.

Also, have you ever noticed paint bleeding under the painter’s tape that you carefully prepped before painting? Here’s one of my other favorite painting tips. To get a crisp straight line, tape off all of your areas as normal, but then use a small amount of caulk along the edge of your painter’s tape. You don’t have to do anything fancy, just spread it with your finger to create a seal along the edge. The caulk fills in all the little cracks so that paint won’t bleed under the tape. You can also do this same process with the paint color you are going to be using on the wall. Once it has dried, paint as normal! When you remove the painter’s tape you will have a crisp straight line every time!

#2 Easily Update Your Home with Prints

Prints are an easy way to update your home and can be used in so many different ways. There are wall prints, printables, and gallery walls with interchangeable prints. Large-scale art is one of my favorite ways to update a space. Prints pack a punch in a big way without having to spend a big amount.

I recently used a print from my friend @juniperprintshop to finish off my cabinet storage space. The only problem with the project was that I couldn’t decide on a frame I absolutely loved. So naturally, I DIY’ed my own. Don’t worry, it didn’t complicate the project at all. You can check out the whole how-to on my cabinet storage reveal post, but just know it was one of the easiest (not to mention gorgeous) projects I’ve done.

#3 Easily Update Your Home with Faux Plants

I don’t know about you, but I struggle in the real-life plant department. It’s the keeping them alive part I struggle with. I love having the natural touches throughout my home, but I do not have a green thumb to save my life. That is why I started using faux plants

Fake plants are not what they used to be. Now, you can barely tell the difference between real versus fake (especially with my hacks) and they are an easy way to update your home with natural elements. I love showcasing smaller plants in hanging pots, nestled on corner shelves, and filling out planters. And, you cannot go wrong with a gorgeous faux tree in the corner of a space.

#4 Easily Update Your Home by Refreshing Cabinets

Have you ever thought about changing your cabinet door fronts for a quick and easy refresh? It is a quick way to update your home so it reflects the style you currently have. I came across Nieu cabinets during my kitchen renovation and have loved ordering from them ever since! In fact, I loved the products from Nieu so much that I collaborated with them to create my own line of cabinet doors.

The reason I love refreshing spaces and furniture with Nieu cabinet doors is that it is easy and affordable. You don’t have to start from scratch, which saves you money. Plus, all you have to do is take off your old door fronts and switch them with the doors from Nieu. It is a simple and easy DIY that anyone can do.

#5 Easily Update Your Home with a Home Decor

Incorporating home decor into your house is an easy way to update things and spice them up! Adding different pieces of decor can help you keep up with the trends you love. Plus, if you really wanted to, you could even shop from home. What is easier than that? If you aren’t sure where to start looking for home decor, check out the list of my favorite home decor stores. Feature walls are a great way to update any space without feeling like everything in the room needs to be changed. I’ve done a variety of wood accent walls from board and batten, angled wood designs, slat walls, etc. They are my favorite and such a great way to make a statement. Or, even if you aren’t looking to make a statement, they are an easy way to create change in your space.

Fun Fact: The green angled wood accent wall is actually one of the first projects I did that went viral and is still getting attention.
