I am always looking for creative ways to decorate my house. If you have been hanging out with me for a while you know that I tend to tackle huge DIY projects that are functional and beautiful, but I also enjoy creating projects on a smaller scale as well. Shelves are a perfect smaller project that is pretty on their own, but also give you spots throughout your house to purposefully add in additional decor. Shelves are a great DIY project for anyone, even if you haven’t DIYed before! Check out my all-time top 3 favorite DIY shelves for inspiration to update your home.
Bedrooms are where dreams are made, fun happens, plans are plotted, and peace is felt. Is your bedroom full of all of these things? If your bedroom isn’t giving you those vibes, it is time to change things up so that you can have your own place of wonder. I love refreshing bedrooms! I’ve done girl rooms, boy rooms, master bedrooms, you name it. Here’s my list of the best DIY projects for any bedroom.
There are times when a room needs a pick me up, but you don’t have a ton of money to spend. Printables are a great way to keep things changing without breaking the bank. There are so many different types of printables to choose from, but honestly, the florals are speaking to me right now. Knowing how to decorate with floral printables is going to change your space in a seemingly small but super impactful way.
DIY Wood Project Tips for Beginners
When it comes to DIY projects it’s so helpful to get to know your materials. And one of my most used materials is wood! Over the years I’ve learned so many tricks when working with wood that have saved me time, money, and stress. No matter how big or small your project is – staining a shelf or building a whole kitchen table – there’s a lot to learn. Let’s dive into my most important DIY wood project tips for beginners.
When I first saw the art ledge from Chris Loves Julia, I knew I loved it and needed one. The only problem was, their instructions involved a table saw to cut down one big piece of wood, which I didn’t have. Most people are in the same boat as me, so I decided come up with a way to do long art ledge, but with just a drill. It’s easy, I promise…just 3 pieces of wood! This is the shelf tutorial you need! I love the look of floating built-in shelves, but most tutorials have shelves that look very bulky and are at least 3 inches thick. I looked and looked for the perfect way to make a THIN 1.5 inch floating shelf, and liked the ideas from Young House Love’s tutorial. So, with a few changes, I gave my thin floating shelves a try in my bathroom (where if I totally messed it up…it wouldn’t matter!), and I LOVE how they turned out!
Here are my step by step instructions. Now go build some shelves!
