There are 2 areas in my home that see a ton of action every day: the living room and the dining room. They are the rooms that my family and I like to gather in and hang out in. Because we spend so much time in these areas we need the perfect rugs to not only be beautiful but to serve a purpose too. If your family is anything like mine, you are always trying to find the best rugs for your living and dining room.
What Types of Rugs to Use in Your Living Room
In our living rooms, we need rugs that are going to be durable but also comfy enough for little toes to play on and the perfect dance floor for barefoot dance parties. It is where we hang out at the end of the day which is why we need to find the perfect rug that will feel like a breath of fresh air.
When I am looking for a rug to use in my living room, I consider the following things:
- Is it durable?
- How soft is it?
- Can it be cleaned easily?
- Is it the right size?
It can be hard to pick the right rug for your living room but these simple questions help in the decision process. I also have a few blog posts that can help too. Check out my post about How to choose the right rug for your space and Rugs 101: everything you need to know. Overall, make sure the rug is something you and your family are going to love. Here are some of my favorite rugs for the living room.
The Best Rugs for the Living Room
Navy Multi Area Rug
The Navy Multi area rug from my Aubrey Collection with Loloi has a super fun combination of colors and textures. It looks like a perfect picture and even has a border detail that accentuates the fact that it is a modern piece of art. The Navy Multi area rug would be the perfect complement to any living room or high-traffic area. It is super fun and just calling to be part of your next living room dance party!
Sky Beige Area Rug
The Sky Beige area rug from the Blake Collection is my ULTIMATE FAVORITE RUG of all the rugs I designed in collaboration with Loloi. Not only is the Sky Beige area rug comfortable, but it’s also super stylish! The pattern design is on a small scale so the rug comes across as highly textural. I’ve decided that I need to have it in every room of my house (not just the living room) and I’m certain you do too!
Jade Natural Area Rug
The Jade Natural area rug from the Aubrey Collection with Loloi is perfect for those modern home designs that love dressing up in neutral tones. It is so versatile, which is why it is one of the most popular rugs from my collaboration with Loloi. It has a chunky border like the Ocean Spice area rug, but it is full of subtle vibes that will be the perfect addition to your living room.
What Types of Rugs to Use in Your Dining Room
Our dining room is the other area of our house that gets a lot of use. I love having a rug underneath our dining room table. It makes the room feel finished and more inviting. But we do a lot of activities in the dining room…We eat, play, work on homework, do arts and crafts, etc. so the rug in the dining room has to be just right.
When I am looking for a rug to use in my dining room, I consider the following things:
- How easy is it to clean?
- Is it durable?
- What size do I need for the space?
When it comes to the dining room, there are a few basics to keep in mind, First, you need a rug that will be able to handle everyday life wear and tear. Plus, spills happen. They just do. No matter how old you are, drinks and dinner (or those arts and crafts projects) will inevitably make their way off the table so you want to make sure you find a rug that can be cleaned up easily. Durable rugs are the way to go for your dining room. You have got to check out some of my favorite rugs that can be used in the living room, and in outdoor dining areas as well.
PRO-TIP: When it comes to the dining room, your chairs should fit on the area rug even when they are pulled out from the rug. This helps ensure people aren’t awkwardly sitting off balance with two legs on and two legs off the rug.
The Best Rugs for the Dining Room

We have to start off by talking about the Natural Black area rug from the Colton Collection. I love this rug so much that it has a permanent home in my dining room. It is going to hold up under my dining room table with all the action that area gets. This rug is durable! Which means it will be also able to handle the elements outside too. So if your dining room is calling for sleek crisp lines, this is the rug for you!
Natural Ivory Area Rug
The Natural Ivory area rug from the Colton Collection is one-of-a-kind! It is made with the same jute cotton blend that makes all of the Colton Collection rugs so easy to use in your dining room. Plus, the natural colors of the Natural Ivory area rug speak to my design heart. I like bringing natural colored elements into every space, like wood beams, wood wall art, and wood accent walls. This Natural Ivory area rug will be the perfect way to complement natural elements in outdoor areas as well as bring natural vibes into your dining room.
