Summertime is all about being outdoors. That means we should enjoy where we are hanging out, right? My patio was nothing special, and if I am being honest, I didn’t enjoy hanging out there. I knew that had to change. So, I got my DIY skills going until I transformed it into a place I love to be. The biggest piece of my patio transformation was an outdoor slat wall. I want you to have a space that you love too, so I am sharing what I learned so you can create your own DIY patio slat wall.
Refreshing your walls is a great idea if you are looking to make a statement. There are so many techniques and textures to choose from: paint, skim coating, wallpaper, etc. But, I have to say that creating a wood-trimmed accent wall is my favorite way to refresh a wall. I finally finished my son Blake’s bedroom makeover and I’m so happy I could cry! At the start of 2022, this room was just a vision in my head and it’s been so amazing to make it come to life. This project took me 4 months to finish and I was able to take my time with each part of the room and really get creative. And now each shelf, light fixture, and DIYed door have so much more meaning to me because I built them! Let me show you what I did.
Whenever I start a new project I always like to draw it up to help me visualize things first. Although I have a pretty good idea of how I want a space to feel, I might not have all the decisions made. That’s just part of the DIY process. In the room makeover I did for my son, I had been thinking about adding a slat wall but was still undecided. It wasn’t until after putting a wallpaper mural on all four walls (and finishing some other things up in the room) I decided a slat wall was the right move. Yes, this meant covering up some pretty wallpaper, but not a lot. If that makes you sad, just wait. The end result was worth it!
