5 Easy Home Project Ideas
With the new year fast approaching, I’ve been thinking about the things I want to create in 2022. This last year was full of big, challenging, and fun projects. So I can’t wait to see what the coming year brings. Do you have any big projects planned? Or maybe you’re just hoping to make some simple updates? Either way, I’m here to help. Let me start by sharing 5 easy home project ideas that make a big difference.
Project #1 Electrical Taped Windows
It’s time to let in the light! I know people love holding onto their shutters, and that’s totally fine. But for me, getting rid of our blinds was so refreshing. Plus, it lets all the sunshine come pouring in. If I’m sharing the real window secret though, it’s black electrical tape. I’ve used this tape in a few rooms in my home and it’s held up really well. All you do to create an electrical tape grid on your windows is mark where you want your lines to be and start taping! Here’s a picture of the taped windows in my living room! They look pretty good, I think. For more ideas on updating your windows, check out this post.
Project #2 A Few Fresh Coats Of Paint
Never underestimate the power a few coats of paint can have. Painting is a great way to brighten up a space or add some character with a splash of color. Paint your walls, cabinets, furniture, whatever your heart desires! If you’re going to be painting a lot, I’d totally recommend getting a paint sprayer. This is the one I use and have loved. Of course, you can always use a paint roller or brush as well.
If you’re going to be updating cabinets, another option instead of sanding and painting everything is replacing the doors. I did just that in my kitchen renovation this year. I am still amazed at what a difference this small change made! You can get more details on that project and see the doors I used here.
Project #3 Wallpaper Makes A Comeback
Wallpaper has made a comeback, and honestly I’m not mad about it! It’s such a great way to add some fun and interesting elements to a room. I used a cute floral wallpaper when I did a super quick and fun 48-hour room makeover for my niece recently. You can get the links to the wallpaper we used and more in this post.
If you’re hesitant to try wallpaper because you don’t want the mess of removing it, there’s another option for you. It’s called peel and stick wallpaper. It works just how it sounds. Once you’re done with it, just peel it right off the wall. Easy peasy! I used some peel and stick wallpaper in my Hogwarts Great Hall room here.
Project #4 Light Fixtures Steal The Show
This next project is a simple one, updating your light fixtures. It’s just one easy thing you can do that will really add to the look of a space. You can keep it classy with something simple, or you can have some fun with a statement light fixture like the one I used in the loft playroom I created for my kids. I also love the light fixture I used for the 48-hour nursery makeover. You can get the link to it here.
Project #5 Big Statement Art
Now that you’ve got your walls all prettied up, it’s time to decorate. I love the simplistic look a giant piece of art gives versus a few smaller frames on a wall. The only problem with big pieces of art is that it can get pretty pricey to frame them. But I figured out a more affordable way, if you’re up for a little DIY.
In the hallway between my front room and kitchen I wanted to hang a beautiful landscape print I got from @juniperprintshop. Instead of taking it to be framed, I sandwiched the print between two pieces of plexiglass. Then I attached a slim piece of wood to the top and bottom of the frame. I’m so glad it turned out! You can get more details on the project here.
