DIY Your Dorm Room For Back-to-School

I can’t believe we’re already approaching back-to-school season! Although I’m far from sending my children off to college, I know that some of you guys might be at that stage with your kids! The dorm is your kid’s first real home away from home. It might be the first place they get to call their own other than their childhood bedroom. Shopping for a dorm room definitely adds up and can get pricey… read my tips on how to save on back-to-school shopping and DIY your child’s dorm room!

DIY a dorm bed

Bed frames can be EXPENSIVE! Luckily, I have the perfect solution for you. DIY your own trundle bed! Last year I made a trundle bed that’s totally doable for you to recreate. Check out how I made this bed step-by-step.

Add a rug to your space!

A rug spruces up ANY space! Even in small places like a dorm room! Depending on the size of your room you will typically need a 9×12 rug for a king size bed, 8×10 for a queen size bed, 6×9 for a full size bed, and 5×8 for a twin size bed. I collaborated with Loloi to create 3 collections of area rugs that would definitely add a pop of color to your space!!

Get smart with storage

Storage doesn’t just have to mean boxes under your bed or stuffed in your closet! You can add an ottoman that doubles as a desk chair to open and store school supplies. I have been loving the boucle ottoman trend lately. Here are my favorites.

Mirrors

Want to make your space seem bigger? Just add a mirror! Try decorating with a large wall mirror or add a decorative mirror onto your desk table. Mirrors have an instant impact on small spaces! I created a list of affordable mirrors to add to your room.

Make it minimal

It’s easy for a small place to seem cluttered if you don’t have a ton of space in your room. Decorate with minimal items that make a large impact on your space!
