2024 came to a close and I am excited to welcome 2025! But before I do…I want to reflect on what I accomplished this past year. We need to celebrate the wins before moving on to the next big thing. Looking back at all the DIY magic made in 2024, I hope it sparks some ideas for your next project and maybe even helps you take a moment to appreciate your own creative wins—big or small!
Built-in Mud Room
I am still in love with my built-in mud room. This is a serious upgrade from what it was before (click here to see a before and after) and it means even more that I did it myself. I started this project like I do every single one–taping out my vision for the new design. This is always a good idea before you DIY a project and can even help you avoid some mistakes along the way.
Once I cut and prepared my wood, I started by assembling the bench and lockers. Next, I added trim and anchors to each section. I wanted vertical planking, so that went up next. If this is a project you’re planning to do you can add the planking in the main part of the lockers or you can extend it to go in the top cubbies and below the bench as well. It’s up to you! Check out the rest of the steps for the DIY project here.
Kids Space Closet
I had a lot of fun with this one! It was especially fun to see my kids’ reactions to it once it was finished. My inner nerd definitely shined through as I picked out the perfect space wallpaper and figured out how to create a constellation ceiling using fiber optic lights.
I turned our boring hall closet into a cozy space and I can’t decide who loves it more–me or my kids. If you have similar thoughts about turning your awkwardly shaped closet into a themed space for your kids, this is your sign! They will love it and will remember it forever.
Check out the post here where I share step-by-step what I did to create this space closet.
Kellie’s Guest Bathroom Makeover
My best friend Kellie’s guest bathroom remodel was quite the project, but we are both ecstatic with how it turned out. We wanted a cozy and sophisticated theme, and I think we pulled it off! The black and gold accents throughout help create that sophisticated look, and the warm natural tones make it feel super cozy.
Before picking out any new furniture or hardware, we painted the walls, added a wall treatment, and redid the flooring. The FLOOR! That was hard work, but it definitely paid off. We weren’t sure about the tiling as we placed it, but we instantly fell in love once it was finished and treated. Check out the post here to find out the details of this guest bathroom remodel.
2-Day Laundry Glow Up
This is the first phase of my laundry room makeover. I upgraded my washer and dryer and added fresh cabinet doors and artwork to hang on the wall. This new space gets me–dare I say–excited to do laundry!
Whenever I remodel cabinets as part of a DIY project, I always try to keep the cabinet boxes and reface them with new doors. Nieu is my favorite company to buy cabinet doors. Their doors are custom-made and fit perfectly with the boxes you already have. Plus, they can easily match the Sherwin-Williams paint color you want to use for your cabinets. They make this part of the project a breeze!
Once I installed my fancy new LG washer and dryer and refaced my cabinets, all that was left was finding artwork to match my vibe. This fun piece did not disappoint! This DIY project took me a weekend to do, so don’t say you don’t have time to upgrade a space–just get started and it’ll come together!
Fireplace Tiling
The last one of my 2024 DIY project round-up is my DIY fireplace tiling. This one is close to my heart! I’ve been dreaming of remodeling my front room for a while now and completing this project reassures me that it’s going to happen. Before I did this project I had some help come in and complete the first (and biggest) phase of the front room makeover.
Once the fireplace was built in, I was anxious to start tiling. This project took me a lot longer than I expected, but man, it’s so special to me that I did this. I’m creating my dream home one project at a time.
