Week 3 of One Room Challenge is done! The room is painted! I ended up choosing a deep green called Essex Green by Benjamin Moore.
I used this paint sprayer to get the smoothest finish possible. Prepping was also made easier by this cool plastic with tape attached to it!
I am excited for my week 2 update for One Room Challenge! I finished this accent wall and it is ready for paint! I drew out the plans for this wall on some graph paper, and then adjusted it slightly as I went. It was actually way easier than board and batten. Alright! It’s happening. I am entering the One Room Challenge! For the next 6 weeks, I will be doing a complete makeover of my son’s bedroom…and I am so excited to share this transformation with you. Like always, I will be doing all the DIYs myself…and with all my power tools. I have big plans for a modern accent wall, new beds, closet redo etc. I would love for you to follow along. It’s all here! What TO do, and what NOT to do for the most professional-looking board and batten wall! I now want one in every room in my house :). First of all, board and batten basically just means putting wood/mdf strips on your wall in a pattern or design! I love it because is an affordable way (only$150!) to give a space character, add a focal point, and elevate your space.
Now let’s all build a board and batten wall!

I’ve been wanting a headboard for a while now, and finally decided it was time to take matters into my own hands and stop waiting until I could save up for a dream one $$$. I wish I had a huge assortment of tools and a huge gorgeous garage workshop. The truth is, I am using the most basic versions of just a few tools and I mostly work on my garage floor…BUT, I’ve still been able to get by building built-ins, wall moldings, shelves, furniture etc. with just 5 power tools. So here’s a quick list of the ONLY 5 TOOLS YOU REALLY NEED to get going on almost any home improvement project.
I’m so excited to share my modern barn door tutorial with you! I wanted a barn door, but all the DIY options I found were for rustic barn doors…and I wanted a modern one. So, when I saw a picture on Joanna Gaines’ instagram of this gorgeous door I knew I needed to have it, and that I could make one! So I busted out my pencil and designed a modern barn door for $120. And with this $69 barn door hardware, the whole door total came to under $200!
I hope I can answer alllllll the how-to questions for making large scale engineer prints in this post! Let me get right down to it. This whole project was $70! $3 for each print, and $19 for each frame. I got tons of ideas from Chris Loves Julia’s post. Here’s what I will outline:
This is the shelf tutorial you need! I love the look of floating built-in shelves, but most tutorials have shelves that look very bulky and are at least 3 inches thick. I looked and looked for the perfect way to make a THIN 1.5 inch floating shelf, and liked the ideas from Young House Love’s tutorial. So, with a few changes, I gave my thin floating shelves a try in my bathroom (where if I totally messed it up…it wouldn’t matter!), and I LOVE how they turned out!
Here are my step by step instructions. Now go build some shelves!
